Writing.

I've loved writing since I was a child. There is a distinct moment that has stood out to me since it happened. In first grade, my teacher was flipping around our writing notebooks. She said, "Look at everyone at the beginning of the year, writing very little. And over time, you all started writing more and more!" Then she paused at mine, looking at my first page. Then my second. Third. "Except for Kim, who loved writing so much since the beginning." For me, writing and telling a story felt so natural. Take a look at some descriptions and excerpts of my pieces!

Dry Cleaning - Personal Account

This work is comprised of my thoughts on my relationship with my parents at a tough point in my life, being with someone who was bad for me, and trauma.

  • I love my parents and they love me dearly. But sometimes, people who care deeply about you still manage to hurt you. This is a piece processing those thoughts and feelings.

  • At the time, I was also in a very unsupportive relationship. This is dealing with my feelings for her and the after-effects. I acknowledge that this is one side of the story.

  • This also touches upon sexual trauma. As such, this piece is not suitable for some audiences and individuals.

  • This is a creative, personal essay tying all of those thoughts together.

Lines - Reflection

This piece is a reflection on identifying as Asian-American, particularly Chinese-Vietnamese American, through narrative writing.

  • Growing up, I was different from my peers and different from my family. Whether or not it was intentional, I felt ostracized.

  • This is an attempt to give me room to think about my experiences and offer myself my own kind of closure and acceptance for myself.

Astronauts and Satellites- Short Story

Screen%20Shot%202019-12-28%20at%2011.28_

A fiction piece about to young adults falling in love and the course of their relationship.

  • My take on a semi-realistic relationship and how it would go.

  • Also dabbling into fiction and playing with dialogue.
